LASIK Patient FAQs

LASIK Patient FAQs

1. Understanding LASIK

What is LASIK?
LASIK is a quick eye surgery that helps you see clearly without glasses or contact lenses.

How does LASIK work?
It uses a laser to gently change the shape of your eye so light focuses properly, making your vision clear.

What problems does LASIK fix?

  • Difficulty seeing far (minus number)
  • Difficulty seeing near (plus number)
  • Cylindrical number (blurred vision)

Is LASIK permanent?
Yes, the correction is permanent. But with age (usually after 40), you may still need reading glasses.

2. Am I Eligible?

How do I know if I can get LASIK?
You’ll need a detailed eye check-up. The doctor will tell you clearly if it’s safe for you.

What age is right for LASIK?
Usually 18+, but best after 21 when your number becomes stable.

Can I do LASIK if my number keeps changing?
No, your number should be stable for at least 1 year.

Who should NOT do LASIK?

  • People with unstable vision
  • Very thin cornea
  • Severe dry eyes
  • Pregnant women

What if I’m not eligible?
Don’t worry—there are other options your doctor can suggest.

3. Before the Surgery(Pre -Lasik Evaluation)

What tests will be done?
Some simple scans and eye tests to check if your eyes are fit for LASIK.

How long does the check-up take?
 Around 1.5 to 2 hours.

Can I wear contact lenses before the test?
 You’ll need to stop:

  • Soft lenses: 1 week before
  • Hard lenses: 2–3 weeks before

Can I come alone for the test?
Yes, but your eyes may feel sensitive after dilation, so it’s better to have someone with you.

4. During the Procedure

How is LASIK surgery performed?

LASIK reshapes your eye’s surface using a laser: the doctor lifts a thin flap on the cornea, adjusts the shape underneath with a laser to improve focus, then puts the flap back so it heals naturally.

Is LASIK painful?
No. Eye drops are used to numb your eyes. You’ll only feel slight pressure.

How long does it take?
 About 10–15 minutes total.

Will I be awake?
Yes, but relaxed. You won’t feel pain.

What will I see during surgery?
You may see lights or feel slight pressure—this is completely normal.
